Course Summary

Group therapy offers an exciting opportunity for growth and exploration for participants, a new way to challenge old patterns. Group therapy also presents unique ethical considerations. This training will focus on exploring these ethical considerations. Emphasis will be placed on maintaining ethical principles around confidentiality, consent, and boundaries; navigating complex group dynamics, including conflict; the importance of creating a structured and predictable space for participants to challenge themselves; and strategies to manage crisis and risk in a group setting.


Learning Objectives

  1. Participants will be able to identify and explore ethical principles of confidentiality, consent, and boundaries as it applies to the group dynamic.
  2. Participants will develop an ethical decision making framework with regard to core competencies as group providers: member selection, group structure, group goals and objectives, and navigating complex group dynamics.
  3. Participants will be able to identify and implement ethical policies and practices around safety and risk management within the group dynamic.

Christina Frank, LMFT

Christina has been an educator in the Northern Virginia community since 2018, as the creator and sole facilitator of Technology and Today's Youth: Parenting in the Digital Age. Technology and Today's Youth is a seminar designed to inspire, educate, and empower parents, educators, and members of the mental health community by building awareness of the impact of technology and social media on today's youth and relationships.

Meagan Chevalier, LMFT

Meagan Chevalier is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) specialized in treating complex trauma. Meagan comes to this work having served as a teacher, writer, and organizer in academic, community, and nonprofit spaces. These experiences have helped her to cultivate a therapeutic practice and curiosity that is integrative and expansive. Meagan uses her training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems, and somatic therapies to help clients reclaim their ability to fully embody their present day experience, whatever that experience may be. Meagan is also passionate about the intersections of this work and social justice and believes that healing our individual traumas better enables us to address our collective traumas. This lens is integral to both her clinical work and her work as an educator.

This training is approved by NBCC for 3 CE credits.

Students who attend live will receive a certificate of completion within 1-week of the training date.

Students who take the course on demand will be required to complete a post training quiz to receive their certificate
