Course Summary
This specialized training is designed for EMDR-trained clinicians who want to confidently integrate somatic interventions into each of the 8 phases of EMDR therapy. While EMDR is inherently body-informed, many clinicians struggle to effectively incorporate somatic awareness and processing skills throughout the protocol, beyond moments of distress or abreactions.
In this 4-hour experiential course, you'll explore how to include and work with physical sensation in every phase of EMDR, from history taking and assessment to desensitization, installation, and re-evaluation. Through guided demonstrations, clinical examples, and embodied exercises, you'll learn how to enhance client safety, deepen processing, and support integration by including somatic techniques as a core component of the process
This training will teach you how to:
- Track somatic cues and autonomic states
- Use body-based techniques to enhance resourcing, titration, and pacing as well as processing and desensitization
- Increase client capacity for embodiment during processing
- Identify somatic signs of readiness, stuckness, or overwhelm in session
- Apply somatic strategies that support integration and closure
Prerequisite: Completion of EMDR Basic Training.
Learning Objectives
- Identify appropriate somatic interventions to support clients during each of the 8 phases of EMDR therapy.
- Demonstrate the use of at least two somatic resourcing techniques during the Preparation phase of EMDR.
- Apply somatic tracking and processing skills during desensitization and body scan phases.
- Distinguish between somatic signs of readiness, activation, and overwhelm during EMDR processing.
- Integrate body-based awareness strategies into clinical decision-making across all EMDR phases.
