Healing Through Art: Integrating Expressive Modalities into your Therapy Practice

This training offers mental health professionals a comprehensive introduction to incorporating art and other expressive modalities into their clinical practice. It's perfect for therapists who are curious about deepening their work with clients through creative, non-verbal methods that honor the complexity of emotional and relational healing.
Expressive creation, particularly through art, is inherently relational. Like the therapeutic relationship itself, art provides a language that transcends words—allowing clients to access and express inner experiences that may otherwise remain unspoken. When used thoughtfully, art can serve as both a mirror and a bridge, helping clients better understand their personal narratives and the ways these narratives shape their relationship with themselves and others.
Throughout this experiential workshop, participants will:
-
Explore the therapeutic potential of various art materials and how different media impact emotional expression.
-
Engage in hands-on, interactive art experiences to foster insight into the client’s emotional landscape and relational patterns.
-
Learn specific expressive directives that can be immediately implemented in clinical sessions to support clients’ self-discovery, emotional regulation, and healing from trauma.
By the end of the training, participants will be equipped with practical tools, foundational knowledge, and creative confidence to begin integrating art and expressive techniques into their therapeutic work in a way that is ethically grounded, client-centered, and trauma-informed.
