Course Summary
We know EMDR is a powerful treatment model for change. How can you apply this model in an ethical and thoughtful way to promote lasting change within a couple's dynamic? This presentation provides an AIP informed approach to treating couples with EMDR to desensitize relational triggers, repair attachment wounds, and build emotional safety for couples you are treating. This training is not only theoretical, but also provides a Couples EMDR Screen Tool, client videos, and resourcing scripts to effectively utilize EMDR with couples.
Learning Objectives
- View the couple’s dynamic through the AIP framework and the 8 phases of EMDR.
- Assess a couple's appropriateness for the three different frameworks for incorporating EMDR into couple’s therapy, as well as the benefits and considerations of each.
- Evaluate four considerations, specific to EMDR with couples, to successfully integrate EMDR into couples work.
- Develop interventions to utilize in the preparation and reprocessing phases of EMDR.

Maureen is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with a passion for treating relational trauma, getting to the underlying issues, and helping clients live better day to day. With 15 years of clinical experience, Maureen specializes in treating trauma and PTSD, mood issues, and relationship conflict. Maureen is EMDR Certified and an EMDRIA Approved Consultant with experience in EMDR intensives, Couples Intensives, and Trauma Process groups. Maureen also facilitates EMDR consultation groups for clinicians improving their practice of EMDR and working towards certification.
Christina Frank, LMFT
Christina is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and is a trauma informed, attachment based therapist that specializes in complex developmental trauma. Christina provides individual and couple therapy, is an EMDR provider and sees clients using both an hourly and an intensive model. Christina runs weekly trauma processing groups.
Christina has been an educator in the Northern Virginia community since 2018, as the creator and sole facilitator of Technology and Today's Youth: Parenting in the Digital Age. Technology and Today's Youth is a seminar designed to inspire, educate, and empower parents, educators, and members of the mental health community by building awareness of the impact of technology and social media on today's youth and relationships.
This training is approved by EMDRIA & NBCC for 4 CE credits.
